Test drive the car – check for a whistling from the sound from the engine under power, a flat feeing engine with a corresponding loss of power and black smoke from the exhaust.

What to do

If you find this fault and the car is under warranty (3 years or 60,000 miles) BMW may carry out the repair for free. Otherwise, if you suspect a blown turbo it is advised to have the car inspected by a fully qualified mechanic.
