Sports cars, cabriolets and GT cars are what make motoring fun. With most brands, you can find cars that are 5 – 7 years old, have only done half their useful and reliable life, but are a third of the new price.

Stick a private plate on them and everyone thinks you are more successful and virile than you really are. If this is your goal, you need to go for cars with a gently evolving image, so people can’t spot the difference. Mazda MX-5s, BMW Z4s and Mercedes SLKs are all good links to start with.
